1. UCC Awards. Initiated by Douglas A. Musunga.

Are these awards meant to drive local content online?

The objectives are mainly to:

a) Create a platform for showcasing ICT Innovations in Uganda.

b) To nurture Uganda's youth to develop a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation using ICT.

c) To encourage organisations, individuals, academia to harness ICTs as they tackle Uganda's development challenges.

Conclusion/ Remarks

“Are these [UCC] awards meant to drive local content online?”

“Submissions for the 4th Chapter of ACIA is now open, visit their website http://acia.ug/ to make an entry….. Entries close on April 18th 2014.”

2. MTN UGANDA SMS. Initiated by Isaac Khisa

Unsolicited messages and costs.

“Thank you very much for your effort, the problem has been sorted out.”

“I’m wondering who informed MTN that I need their SMSs and chopping off my airtime. For heaven’s sake, I have never subscribed or even thought of subscribing for their SMSs…. Help me unsubscribe my number…… or kindly inform me on how to unsubscribe.”

“This is not an MTN issue alone. All telecom companies are guilty. I've suffered enough of this on my Warid line, and I know for a fact that other networks also do it.”

Conclusion/ Remarks

“Yeah, leave the network. There is absolutely nothing else you can do.”

“SMS "STOP" or "UNSUB" (without the quotes) to the originating number. If that doesnt help, forward your email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

“I forwarded your number to MTN customer service and the SMS have been barred.

You can always contact MTN customer service via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or @MTNUGANDACARE.”

3. Enterprise Architecture. Initiated by Ayoub Kakande.

Does it have any direct/practical impact (with all due respect leaving the theoretical bit) on the end users

“If it involves streamlining a business so it achieves its full potential, then it should lead to improved service and hence customer satisfaction…”

“EA is so interesting, has analogy with nature. or how to master plan business before you start it - how to understand performance of an innovation before it has materialized, proof case it with change management, and plan for all impossible eventualities. An approach of how probably a living thing was made!”

Conclusion/ Remarks

“Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a description or documentation of the entire business (arranged in its 4 domains i.e. business, data, information &technology) detailed its current status and target status which binds all business process and IT to the enterprise vision and mission and goal.”
