2. Large-scale Internet censorship coming to Uganda Initiated by Jude Mukundane
The internet should be open. Blocking pornography is simply tackling symptoms. The real stuff on the inside is influenced by parenting.
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
If anyone is delegating and relying on government to protect children, that won’t work.
Are ISPs aware that they are now legally liable for the content of traffic that goes through their networks and will need to install expensive censorship/filtering systems inside their networks?
|
Conclusion/ Remarks
Talking of parents means biological father /mother and the schools. Which parent are you referring to as the one to protect children?
It's good for the country if implemented as stated. The only worry is that privacy might not be guaranteed.

3. Airtel advertises wrong number. Initiated by Robert Kato
Airtel Uganda puts a wrong toll free number on their ” Contact Us “ page of the website and no one seems to have seen it
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
One can load airtime, convert it to data, fail to access internet and no refund is given !!!
The products displayed on their website are way different or old from the ones they advertise today.
Airtel needs to do a lot more for its USSD options. Too much down time and poor response.
|
Conclusion/ Remarks
Request to Airtel team to give out reference numbers just like UMEME, so one does not need to sing the same song, just to read the reference number and the problem shall be hopefully solved soon.

4. FACEBOOK To Block FACEBOOK and WHATSAPP in Uganda Initiated By Julius Kateega
Facebook has issued a statement with intent to stop operations in Uganda over the passing of the Anti-Gay Law..
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
This type of pressure would even make gay activism much harder than it has been.
|
Conclusion/ Remarks
I don’t think the Facebook story is true – there are no other reports of it online and no source given. Irresponsible!
Wink Fm simply aggregates news from around Uganda that’s why each story carries a link to the source.

5. MPs to undergo ipad training Initiated By Margaret Sevume
Members of Parliament will today start a two months training on how to use ipads.
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
Why two months? Period is too long.
Was it necessary for Parliament to purchase tablets for all MPs when some already had them?
|
Conclusions/ Remarks
It happened today and only 3 MPs showed up!
Before parliament procured ipads, over 60% MPs had tablets. Therefore the assumption that all MPs needed the training is wrong.

6. Request For Video Conferencing Services Initiated By Francis Gimara
Need to set up a video conferencing facility in the chambers of a Judge for one day to enable my client from South Africa give evidence.
|
Flowers
Do a background check on the quality of the internet connection at the Judge's chambers first. Google Hangouts not only handles better over poorer connections but also gives you room to have more than two participants on the call, and most important, the ability to record the session.
|
Frowns
|
Conclusions/ Remarks
Achievable with a laptop with Skype and an internet Dongle (Skype Video call)
Google hangouts could also come in handy.

Why can't we deliver what others have delivered in the last 20 years?
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
Aren't we too slow? URSB and URA
teamed up to register businesses, but do not have an online presence
yet, and URSB is still using typewriters!!!

8. Ipad Initiated by Wahabu Kyewalyanga
Where can one buy an IPAD, to use as a phone, internet, TV and a Camera?
|
Flowers
|
Frowns
|
Conclusion/ Remarks
Without an apple computer, one is better off buying a tablet. Apple has all sorts of gizmos that can complicate use of the ipad .
