Uganda may soon turn into a centre for hosting international and regional conferences and trade fairs.

Among the many conferences it has hosted since CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in November 2007, Uganda will host an international trade expo in business and professional services come March 2009.

The expo will be the first of its kind in Africa and in the developing countries. The focus of the expo will be promotion of trade in services and increasing visibility of the services trading firms in the country, region and on the international scene.

Amos Tindyebwa, the Executive Director Uganda Trade and Business Development Centre (TBDC) said the expo is expected to attract over 2,000 companies and enterprises worldwide in areas of business process outsourcing (BPO), call centre services, website hosting, data centre hosting, help desk services, aviation, media and communication, banking and insurance, tour and travel among others.

"This is going to be an annual event organized by Uganda Trade and Business Development Centre (TBDC) based here in Uganda in conjunction with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Uganda Investment Authority, UCC, UEPB, the Service Exporters Association and in association with the ministries of ICT; Foreign Affairs; Trade, Tourism and Industry; and Education, " Tindyebwa said in a statement.

He added that major exhibitors from various countries and within Uganda will be expected to take advantage of this one of a kind lifetime opportunity to exhibit their services and even do spot sale services to the international audience and the business process outsourcers.

"Any company wishing to expand its frontiers and get customers in one place and network, this is the opportunity. We are offering a platform for companies and enterprises that would like to expand their frontiers for exporting services, investment and business promotion," he said.

The expo will be a five-day event from 23rd to 28th March, 2009 at the Lugogo show grounds.
