WOMEN AND TECHNOLOGY IN RURAL UGANDA
By Farida Nanyonjo - HAG
Women in the rural districts of Amuru and Nwoya who are semi or completely illiterate are embracing  ICT as a means by HAG to improve health seeking behavior in a bid to cub maternal deaths and contribute to the Zero HIV  infection among new borns.
Through Community Resource persons, HAG takes these women through materials development sessions to have IEC materials messages suitable, understandable, informative and acceptable in the community setting.
The women also participate in pretesting and translation and localization  of these IEC Materials like posters, Tshirts and Screen Ads.
Ms Akot Grace who had two HIV positive children that were delivered at home, has now had two more HIV negative deliveries at Health Center IV with the assistance of Health Care workers. She learned about safe deliveries from a poster developed by fellow women.
She is now on ARVS and her quality of life has greatly improved.
