  1. 1. UCC website hacked!! By Lillian Nalwoga

Can anyone access www.ucc.co.ug website. It seems like it has been hacked by some group calling themselves - Indonesian Cyber Freedom

Flowers

Frowns

Cyber security is not absolute. Even the most secured websites have been attacked.

Conclusion/ Remarks

UCC website hackers did what other hackers just do - just erase the home page and replace it with their stuff. Upgrade your CMS always to avoid injection

The advantages of using a CMS like Drupal, is that you can leverage contributed or custom modules to enhance security.

  1. 4. Yaka usage Initiated by Latif Ntambi

Flowers

Frowns

Conclusion/ Remarks

Yaka only counts down when some one is using power, If you want to pause it, just turn off the circuit breaker in the electrical panel. It won’t count, neither will anyone be able to use it when you are away.

  1. 5. Unlocking Sony CD/DVD player Initiated by Daniel Ninsiima

How can I play CDs /DVDs on a player regionally locked to  Canada/ USA?

Flowers

Frowns

Sony brands are notoriously hard to hack.

Conclusion/ Remarks

All dvd players can change region legally up to five times. If you make it region-free it might become unusable.

There is a hidden menu for unlocking.

Failing to access information from UDERB, launched to help people access Uganda Curriculum content like Past Papers of UNEB.

Flowers

Frowns

Could it have been hacked?

Conclusion / Remarks

The site is up. But maybe their mission has changed.

It was on voluntary basis and has now collapsed.

Try http://etutoring.gayazahs.sc.ug/

(Response: this site is very good, recommendable to all school going children. Thank you)

It is a shame that such a precious resource can be lost this way. I wonder, can’t it be revived but as a commercial enterprise funded by an NGO, donor funds or Government Aided in that order of preference?

  1. 12. Kenyan TV stations want to sell Internet alongside Free TV Initiated by David Okwii

Three companies under UDN have imported digital TV free-to-air internet-enabled set-top boxes to supply Internet alongside TV.

Flowers

Frowns

Conclusion / Remarks

Triple play is a premium product where one would pay once for internet, digital TV and a telephone connection.

Saw it in December in Nairobi with ZUKU TV.

I have always wondered what our Telecoms are waiting for to partner with digital TV. They laid miles of fiber, with lots of redundancy that could be used for such extras but are constrained by numbers (few users)

A friend in Nairobi pays 4000Kesh (approx 120,000UGSH) for Zuku TV plus very decent unlimited internet.
