World Records Day or International Records Day was celebrated internationally in the different parts on 30th August 2012. Starting with this year, World Records Day shall be celebrated on 30th August of every Year.
The theme for this year 2012 is Records for the Future: Repositioning to Match Technological Developments

During the month of August, Records and Information managers, associations, organizations and countries are expected to carry out various community outreaches based on the theme to mark the celebrations.
The purpose of this special day is to create awareness amongst the various stakeholders such as Governments, Private Sector, NGOs, Policy Makers, Records Managers, Records Users and the General Public about the contributions, innovations, solutions, developments, challenges, threats and opportunities in the Records Management profession.
Activities planned for the celebration of the day include Community Outreach such as charity, training, donation, sensitization and career guidance.  Professionals are encouraged to carryout research and the findings presented during the World Records Day celebrations. Different companies and individuals, associations and groups are invited to showcase their products, services, innovations etc. Various presentations in form of Poster, Digital story, Audiovisual, Audio and PowerPoint can also be made.
Performances in form of Music Dance and Drama can be made based on the theme and various aspects of Records Management. Build up events can include, talk shows and webinars.
In Uganda, this year’s commemorations involved community outreaches, a peaceful professional march and exhibitions. A debate, drama, and presentations, were made at the National Theatre in Kampala.
Francis Ekwaro, the Coordinator of Electronic Records Management Project in Uganda, in a press statement said that many people and organisations. “Are generating and using electronic records in the day-to-day running of their business transactions, However, these electronic records are not well managed, characterised by much attention on the hardware and physical existence of Information and Communication Technologies. This has made most organisations ignore the management of electronic records,”
Each year, there will be a chosen theme for this international event based on proposals by various Records and Information managers, associations, organizations, countries and a panel of experts. The theme shall be proposed during the month of November each year.
