Weekly Roundup 1-7th July 2013 PDF Print E-mail

  1. Social Media source code. Initiated by Benjamin Atwine

Source code + full documentation to anyone who wants a copy at $100

Flowers

Frowns

That amount is peanuts unless there is no after sales service because clients often don’t understand code & require lots of hours afterwards.

If even Facebook can't monetize its numbers in a significant way, what chance do we, with our few users have?

Why try to reinvent the wheel when you can program/customize a Facebook page?

Conclusion/ Remarks

Price is dictated by the Demand/Supply .

Benjamin needs to capitalise on those who will buy the product by offering and charging for after sales services.

6. ‘Telecoms raising fees illegally’ Initiated by Assad Mugenyi

Telecoms have increased charges for reasons best known to them and not because of the proposed taxes

Frowns

Why do people have to complain when MTN adds one shilling to their prices!

If tax is not yet effected, isn’t this a fraud?

Budget is not yet approved by Parliament. What if the tax is rejected?

Conclusion/ Remarks

MTN may fear taxing them retrogressively hence the present hike.

Need to lobby Parliament for more friendly ICT policies.

7. Failed to connect Windows 8 Enterprise to Domain Initiated by Cosmas

Have managed to connect other PCs running XP and Win 7 but not Windows 8

Flowers

Reinstalled ADDS Role on the server and it’s working. DNS was the problem.

Frowns

Give the DNS server on the local computers the same IP as the Domain Controller!
