I-N Media Node member scoops Commonwealth Job PDF Print E-mail

A Ugandan communications expert has been appointed to the communications and public affairs division of the Commonwealth Secretariat. Julius Mucunguzi,30, currently a senior communications officer with World Vision Uganda and a lecturer in the department of Mass Communications at Makerere University will be a communications officer, joining Joel Kibazo, another Ugandan, who heads the division. He is a leading member of the I-Network Media Node.

Mucunguzi who is expected to report at the end of June got the job after attending a competitive interview that attracted 180 applicants. An excited Mucunguzi confirmed that he is moving when contacted.

“I read the job of communications officer advertised in The Economist magazine, put together my resume, and applied. Almost one month later, I was called and told that I had made it to the final shortlist. I then travelled to London, sat for the interviews, and was successful. That was it,??? Mucunguzi said.

“The interview process was touch and challenging. We were challenged,??? he said.

He declined to say more about the job, telling this reporter to contact Joel Kibazo, who is the Commonwealth Secretariat official spokesperson.

Before joining World Vision, Mucunguzi worked with The Monitor newspaper up to 2002. He then went to the University of Oslo where he did a Masters in Media and Communications (Democracy and Development). Upon his return in July 2004, he worked as a Senior Reporter with The New Vision.

He is also a lecturer in the department of Mass Communications, Makerere University, and has also been a guest lecturer in media-military relations at the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, Jinja. Mucunguzi has also written and published in international journals. His most recent publication is a chapter in a book: Global War-Local Voices. Media Images of the Iraq war. Nordicom, a Swedish publishing house, published the book. He is married with two children.
