Knowledge Sharing Using the New WWW Tools PDF Print E-mail
Background

Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT), in conjunction with the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) have organised a Train-the-Trainer workshop on Knowledge Sharing Using the New WWW Tools. This is a unique training, the first ever organised in sub Saharan Africa intended to spearhead a new wave of innovation for teaching and learning in the region using online tools. The training will be based on free and open source software (FOSS) tools/utilities which are available for download from the Internet.

The training will take place at the East African Center for Open Source Software (EACOSS) in Nakawa, Kampala from May 29, 2006 to June 2, 2006 and will draw participants from Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Ugandan participants are mainly members of the ICT4D Expertise Team (eTeam) a local team that extends expert advice to various development projects in the country.

Objectives

The training is intended to equip participants with Web 2.0 tools skills for teaching and learning. At the end of the training, participants will:

  1. Be familiar with the roles and responsibilities of trainers in high-quality Capacity Development activities.
  2. Be able to prepare and implement seminars and training workshops which aim to sensitize and train the general public on the new Web 2.0 tools (such as Skype, RSS, blogs, wikis, D-groups, Writerly, etc).

Workshop Outcome

It is expected that participants will apply these tools at their work places and also be able to train others in the effective use of these tools. This will greatly improve the knowledge sharing capabilities and competencies of the participants and the projects that will benefit from this training.

Financial and Technical Support

IICD provided both financial and technical support to make sure this workshop is a success.
