Parliament delays ban on used computers Print

23 September 2009

The ban on the importation of used refrigerators, freezers, computers and television sets, has been delayed to March 31 2010.

Committee chairperson Gaudioso Tindamanyire explained that the delay was made so that dealers who were waiting for their orders to be delivered do not lose money.

He added that this would give the Government time to come up with an e-waste management policy.

In its report, the committee also recommended that the Government plans an e-waste management and recycling system to mitigate environment problems that may escalate from the disposal of e-waste.
